From what I'm reading, it could mean that the vendor paypal on Itch isn't configured correctly, so I hope you get this quick and this doesn't cause too many problems for you.

I have the Steam version of the base game. Are the DLCs on ITCH compatible?
Answered my question: This runs standalone once unzipped.
So not a "DLC" in the traditional meaning. It does not install over the base game.
Is this and the other DLC built into the steam release or will these come to the steam release later?

I had only the Option to pay by card this time. Never happened before. But it worked..!
